Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) has arrested a government employee posted in the office of the tehsildar in Birsinghpur, Satna district, for accepting a bribe of ?4,000, officials said on Wednesday.
According to Director General of EOW, Upendra Jain, the complainant, Neelesh Lodhi, a resident of Ujjaini, had applied for the distribution of his ancestral land in September last year.
Rajesh Tripathi, who worked as a reader in the tehsildar's office, was responsible for processing the land mutation. However, he allegedly demanded a bribe of ?5,000 to complete the procedure.

After receiving the complaint, the EOW Rewa conducted a preliminary verification and found merit in the allegations. A trap team was then formed to catch the accused.
During the course of the investigation, Tripathi eventually agreed to accept ?4,000 instead of the initially demanded ?5,000.
On Wednesday, as soon as the complainant handed over the money to Tripathi at the tehsildar’s office in Birsinghpur, the EOW team caught him red-handed. He was taken into custody, and further legal proceedings are underway.
